{"id":956,"date":"2018-10-12T18:41:54","date_gmt":"2018-10-12T18:41:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bcfo.org\/?p=956"},"modified":"2018-10-12T18:41:54","modified_gmt":"2018-10-12T18:41:54","slug":"an-ounce-of-prevention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bcfo.org\/an-ounce-of-prevention\/","title":{"rendered":"An Ounce of Prevention"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">An Ounce of Prevention<\/span><\/h1>\n<h3><span class=\"s1\">SBJ Cover Letter<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks (BCFO) is completing 18 years of providing services to those with breast cancer-related needs.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Hooked on Dance continues to be the number one source of resources used to address these needs.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The greater Springfield community has come together once again to support BCFO\u2019s mission to help cover the cost of life for local breast cancer patients and their families as they navigate treatment. Thank you each BCFO donor who makes this work possible!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This year has been one of great progress for BCFO and those we serve.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Last year, we announced an effort to double the number of screening mammograms provided to the uninsured and underinsured.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>This goal has been achieved with the help of generous donors, mammography facility partners and the Missouri Department of Economic Development Neighborhood Assistance Program.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>BCFO is on track to deliver over 1,200 lifesaving mammograms in 2018.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We know from the effort completed so far that much work remains to ensure no one in our community needlessly loses years of life to a late diagnosis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Over one-third of those diagnosed with breast cancer in BCFO\u2019s 31 county service area seek financial assistance from the organization during their cancer treatment.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Countless others seek information and comfort.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>As you will see from the program growth chart included in this publication, BCFO is charged with meeting an ever increasing need.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>When one in every eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, BCFO\u2019s services will continue to be important to our community in the years ahead.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Since inception, one of BCFO\u2019s goals has been to create sustainability through an endowment.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>This endowment will allow the critical needs of local breast cancer patients and their families to continue to be met forever.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>As BCFO nears the end of two decades of service and stewardship, we strive to complete this sustainability goal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Charlie and Mary Beth O\u2019Reilly created a 100% matching gift at Community Foundation of the Ozarks (CFO) where other families and businesses can make an impact that lasts forever and bears their own family or business name.
